A House Full of Friends

What culminated in a dream come true was generated by a decision I had made to perform each song in it's most natural essence, whether that be acoustic, electric, Bluesy, Funky, Jazzy, Psychedelic or what have you. I recruited 12 musicians, some of whom I had played with for years and others I just wanted to collaborate and share a stage with. There was a wide range of ages and backgrounds, etc., but the two things most important to me were that the musicians in on this project be really good at their discipline and that they were of positive and open spirit. This being the right formula became more apparent as the evening went on.

I observed the mutual respect the musicians had for each other and, with that said, I became excited to know that my 'hunch' of trying something big and complex like this was spot on and risky. On the technical side, I brought in sound tech Paul Thomas to work with Chaby Moreno who is the head Club Fox sound tech who set the mics and wired the stage to perfection! Those two worked together as a solid team in what could have been a hard night for less experienced sound engineers considering the fluid instrument change throughout the evening.

The show itself was a great example of patience and cooperation. Upon their arrival I handed the musicians and singers a set list that showed the order of the songs as well as who is playing on what and that they would have to be self-monitored and ready when their stage time arrived and know when to exit too. Writing the set list was one of the most difficult aspects of preparation but it worked out great. I likened it to a hockey game with players coming in and out, which I was told made it interesting for the audience, who were passionate and respectful and, understanding the scope and their role in the event, really patient.

The sound on stage was good. Although we connected in the various ensemble configurations it all came down to the aforementioned musical expertise and open spirits that brought the music performances to magical life. That right there was the key and a clear model for how I will work in the future. With great musicians there is no drama beyond the dynamics of creating music.

Now we have a great live album to harvest... Upon hearing the clearly recorded vocal and instrumental tracks come together during the mixing sessions with engineer Michael Rosen, I felt both validated, humbled and so grateful for the talent these great musicians and artists brought to the performances and how we melded together with a sincere love and ability for making great music! Out of 17 songs performed, 10 ended up on the album(we split "Everything" into the 2nd and 3rd tracks) , a high percentage of success, considering the minimal rehearsal time.

"A House Full of Friends" is an 11-track album available on CD, download and streaming. I couldn't be prouder to present this to you. I hope you will support this project so we can get this great band out into the world where it belongs!

about

The "Full Story" is forthcoming...but for now you can be assure that, just like the evening it was recorded with the full, loving cooperation of 13 immensely talented musicians and singers, this album is magic.

Funds raised from album sales will go into marketing the release worldwide and perpetuating the live band project. There is also the full concert video that will be available in the future.

Time to fully trust my instincts and contribute what I can into the world that can use some healing from music and other positive activities.
